Conceptronic NAS Data Recovery

June 23, 2014

Conceptronic provides simple, easy to use NAS devices for home computing networks and small offices. Their products are often inexpensive compared to their competitors, but they offer the full features of a typical storage server including email alerts, monitoring, and more.

Many Conceptronic NAS devices are redundant, which means that a single hard drive failure won’t cause data loss, as a parity on the other hard drives in the device contains the lost information. After a drive failure in a redundant device, a new hard drive simply needs to be installed to prevent further issues. However, not all Conceptronic NAS devices are redundant, and even among redundant servers, data loss is always a possibility.

The causes and symptoms of data loss can vary, but regardless of the scenario our laboratories offer full data recovery services for all Conceptronic devices, from single drive enclosures to large storage servers. Conceptronic drive

Conceptronic Server/NAS Data Recovery Procedures

We offer remote recovery on some Conceptronic NAS devices, depending on the number of drives and the nature of the failure. In remote recovery cases, an engineer logs onto your server from our laboratory via an Internet connection. Corrupted data is fixed using the latest techniques, and any configuration problems are resolved. The entire process rarely takes more than several hours, and is often the best option. Engineers will require bit-level access to the server, and in some cases, a new server or storage medium will need to be attached to the device for data transfer. However, in many cases, drives simply need to be remounted after the data recovery process is complete to restore functionality to the NAS.

Remote recovery is only possible on Conceptronic NAS devices with more than one hard drive, and certain circumstances may make remote recovery impossible on complex cases. For these situations, we offer top tier in-lab data recovery services. Our in-lab process also varies, but we will usually get the damaged hard drives operating using standard hard drive recovery techniques in a class 5 clean room, at which point we clone the damaged drives and rebuild the server.

While in-lab recovery takes longer than remote recovery, it’s very efficient, and server cases are prioritized. We realize that downtime is extremely important for businesses, educational facilities, and home networks, and we take every possible precaution to ensure a fast, safe, secure, and full recovery of your missing data.

In these situations, the drives from the NAS, SAN, or RAID must be shipped to one of our laboratories, where we combine standard data recovery techniques with advanced virtualization to simulate the original operating environment of the server. Clones are made of all hard drives to ensure that the process is completely non-destructive. All in-lab server cases are expedited, and 24/7 recovery work is available for extreme situations. All data is handled securely, and every step is taken to ensure efficient processing. In-lab recovery work also has a very high success rate.

Conceptronic NAS Error Messages

Email alerts can be configured on Conceptronic NAS devices. Alerts that may indicate a need for data recovery include:

  • Hard Drive Is Full
This is only problematic when a hard drive isn’t actually full, but both the drive and the device are reading as “full” due to data corruption. This can occur as the heads of a drive gradually mark more and more bad sectors as they fall out of proper alignment. If your NAS shows one or several “full” hard drives suddenly, it’s important to shut down the server immediately to prevent further damage to the affected hard drives.
  • A Critical Error Has Occurred
For a NAS server, a “critical” error can be missing hard drives, failed hard drives, or configuration issues. If data isn’t immediately accessible or if the NAS won’t boot up, data recovery may be necessary.
  • System Temperature Has Exceeded
This can be a precursor to serious stability issues. Try to regulate the NAS device’s temperature; if you can’t find an obvious reason for the temperature issue, shut it down immediately and contact Conceptronic customer support or a Datarecovery.com engineer.

Tips For Data Recovery on a Conceptronic NAS

At the first sign of hard drive failure, you should immediately shut down your sever. Do not attempt to rebuild the NAS configuration if more than one hard drive has failed, if you’re receiving a critical error message, or if your device has less than three drives. Rebuilding the NAS may overwrite data. This makes data recovery much more difficult, and a full recovery becomes less likely (partial files and even entire directories can often be fully saved, however, even when a server has been overwritten).
