Raising Our Commitment to Natural Disaster Relief

Over the years, our laboratories have provided discounted or free services to thousands of hurricane victims. Read stories from our Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Maria data recovery clients.

For most natural disasters, we discount our services by 20-35%, which allows us to cover most of the costs incurred during the data recovery process and handle as many flood-damaged devices as possible.

Given the extent of damage caused by Hurricane Ian, we’ve decided to extend this discount to 50%. Our goal is to provide consumers, businesses, non-profits, and government agencies with an affordable and reliable option for cleanroom data recovery.

unfortunately, most flood water isn’t clean. Contaminants pose an especially significant concern for hard drives, and damaged media needs to be treated as quickly as possible in a certified cleanroom for optimal chances of a successful recovery.

If your computer was damaged by Hurricane Ian, take the following steps:

  1. Protect yourself. Don’t turn on your computer’s power. Make sure your computer is unplugged before handling any sensitive components.
  2. Ground yourself before removing storage media from your computer. This prevents potential electrostatic damage. If you’re uncomfortable removing your storage media from your computer, send the entire computer to a professional data recovery laboratory.
  3. Do not attempt to clean your device. Electronic components must be treated with appropriate chemical cleaners, and some devices (such as hard drives) must be opened in a certified cleanroom to prevent further contamination.
  4. Do not attempt to dry your device. This can accelerate the accumulation of corrosion, lowering the chances of a successful recovery.
  5. Put the device into a plastic bag or electrostatic bag (and don’t add additional water to the bag). Pack it with at least 2-3 inches of bubble wrap. Packing peanuts are not appropriate for shipping hard drives or other electronic devices.
  6. Get assistance from a professional data recovery provider as soon as possible. Fast treatment will limit corrosion and improve your chances of a successful result.

Datarecovery.com provides free media evaluations, and our no-data, no charge guarantee gives you peace of mind as your case progresses: If we don’t recover the files you need, there’s no charge for the recovery attempt.
